To get married you need to 18 years old or 16 with parental permission.
You will need to produce your birth certificates, decree absolutes (if applicable) or death certificate.
You must not be close blood relatives.
Gay marriages are now becoming more common.
In England weddings must take place within daylight hours of 8am - 6pm.
For a moonlit wedding you will need to go to Scotland, become a Quaker or Jew or some register offices
may perform this for you.
Traditionally the brides church is chosen, the Church of England tend not to like churches
being chosen for the prettier backdrop. If you wish to marry in a parish other to the one you
live in you will need special permission by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Banns need reading at the church on 3 seperate Sundays before the wedding,
the wedding needs to take place within 3 months of the last reading.
Civil ceremonies require you to have lived in the district for 7 days prior to
giving notice at the office. If you live in different districts both offices must be notified.
A marriage notice is displayed in the office for 21 days to ensure there are no objections.
2 witnesses are required over the age of 18 for civil or church.
