ETIQUETTE FOR THE GROOM
The grooms' responsibilities start with appointing the best man and ushers.
It is always a good idea to appoint a member of the brides family as one usher so her relatives are recognised.
As well as the daunting task of his speech , the groom is responsible for purchasing of the gifts for
bridesmaids and ushers, and ensures they are conveniently located so he may hand
them out .
It is customary for the groom to give flowers to his and the brides mother during the speeches.
Traditionally the speeches take the following order: first the father of the bride proposes a toast to the
bride and groom. Then the groom responds and proposes a toast to the bridesmaids.
The bestman responds on behalf of the bridesmaids.
The grooms speech should be short and sweet, he should thank the brides parents for the splendid
reception, for having such a beautiful daughter and for letting him marry her.
He should also thank the guests for attending and for their presents.
He must also thank all other individuals who have been particularly helpful.
The groom must remain on his best behaviour at all times. On no account should he get drunk,
flirt with the bridesmaids or the brides younger sister!
If you are having a dance this should be started by the bride and groom as their first dance as a
married couple.
