BEST MAN ETIQUETTE
Pick your best man with extreme caution.
Not only does he need to be good friends with the groom, he needs to be dependable.
It makes sense for the best man to be the same religion as the bride and groom and try
to choose him together. If you can't decide on a best man then a best woman is perfectly acceptable.
One of the first responsibilities is the stag night, this should be an event to suit the taste of the groom.
For example hunting or fishing fans might appreciate a weekend in Scotland.
Prague, Estonia or Dublin all offer reasonable accomodation and cheap alcohol.
The best man usually fixes the flights, accomodation n proramme fo the trip.
It is customary for the stag party to go dutch and split the cost of the grooms expenses.
He is responsible for the grooms and ushers outfits, he must make sure the groom has everything he might need
and most importantly he needs to look after rings and hand them over at the alter.
Quite often the best man stays with the groom on the night before the wedding.
On the day of the wedding, the best man must ensure the button holes are available and that the
Order of Service cards are in place. These are usually taken to the Ushers lunch which is held
in a restaurant or pub near the church.
It is customary for the groom and best man to enter a church through a side door and not the West Door which
the bride will use .
At the end of the ceremony he accompanies the chief bridesmaid out of the church.
At the reception the Best Man is part of the receving line (if you have one) and he may act as Master
of Cermonies if needed.
The speech should be amusing, short and never vulgar. It is polite to comment on how
beautiful the bride is looking and how well suited they are.
He needs to respond to the grooms toast on behalf of the bridesmaids and to read out any
absent relative telegrams or e-mails.
